Hwang Jeong-min
I first saw Jeong-min as a bumbling idiot in the TV drama The Accidental Couple alongside Kim Ah-joong. I was kind of impressed, as he developed a slight range of acting abilities that were far superior than other drama actors (even though this was his first drama). So you can easy see why I fell in love with the school. Sad to say I didn't finish the show but I was able to see the last three episodes and I knew at some point I would have to go back and watch the rest of it.
After sound performances in Black House, Private Eye, In My End Is My Beginning and Fists of Legend did Hwang reveal he could play characters that were so vastly different from each other. Each character was done with serious success and a remarkable sense of growth. In each of his films it appears he gets better and understands each character he plays more and more.
The downside to his movie career would be the film Blades of Blood. He did a good job with what he had to work with but the movie fell flat. It was bland and boring even with all of the action scenes. In the film he plays a blind swordsman who trains the "hero" of the film to kill a villain in the film. I would suggest that you skip over Blades of Blood and watch one of his other films.
Finally Hwang also appeared as the lead in Ode of My Father as a stubborn man who will do anything for his family and he was a gangster dying of a terminal decrease who found love in Man In Love. It is not the first time he played a gangster but I felt like Man In Love was better than his other performance as a gangster. Even though the film itself needs a lot of improvement, Hwang is excellent. With Ode of My Father, we saw a slighty different side of his acting chops; a hot headed character. His character is stubborn and blunt but his character growth from a child to adult is a long one. Hwang was able to show that growth with ease even during some of the most stressful scenes of the movie. If you want to see more to update performances of Hwang Jeong-min then watch the two I just suggested.
