Pained
A poor directors attempt at an emotional film
"Debt collector Nam-soon (Kwon Sang-woo) lost his sense of pain after a traumatic accident during his youth, and now regularly takes beatings for his job. Street vendor Dong-hyun (Jung Ryeo-won) suffers from severe hemophilia, a disorder that impedes the body's ability to stop bleeding. For Dong-hyun, even the most minor of injuries could be deadly. She's left homeless after Nam-soon collects the last of her money, so he decides to take her in. As the two grow closer, Nam-soon suddenly begins to lose his lifelong insensitivity to pain and the hurt of a lifetime washes over him. Together, these two lonely souls learn to hurt and hope again..."
I enjoy the chaotic world of the two characters as they are not perfect nor do they try to be.
Nam-Soon (Kwon Sang-woo) is a man who can't feel pain which helps him keep his job as basically a gangsters sandbag that will scare their clients into paying their debts. He has lived a hellish life and has no regard for himself. He lives in an empty house that his family used to stay in before they died. We get a sense that he has nothing and is quite empty. This is a character that some people would like to be as pain is a bastard but at least we feel something. Imagine if you didn't...
Dong-hyun (Jung Ryeo-won) is a street vendor that has a severe case of hemophilia. She has nothing permanent in her life including the spot she uses to sell her items. She is under the threat of bleeding thus she often fears touch but its an easy fix since she carries rubber glue with him at all times. She eventually she becomes the light in Nam-Soon's life gifting him with real love. She comes into his house and makes it a home once again.
This is not a happy ending film but it features happy moments. The romance between the two characters was really nice to see. As both characters each have a internal problem that could eventually kill them. That's why this film is different from other love stories as they both have problems.
I think Jung Ryeo-won did a better job than Kwon Sang-woo as she appeared to be a better actor. The chemistry was there but I think the male lead was under developed. I think the film suffers because they tried to cast a "face" as the male lead rather than a good actor. Kwon Sang-woo has his moments but I don't think this film was it. I dislike the director of this film because I don't think he knows what he is doing. This film could have been great rather than a mediocre film thrown together to try to make you feel something.
Honestly I think you should skip this film as there is nothing worth watching this movie for.
