A tale of what most fathers would do to get revenge on those that have wronged their children.
"Widower Lee Sang-hyeon lives a quiet life with his 15-year-old daughter Su-jin. But one day she is abducted and raped, and her corpse is found at a derelict public bathhouse. Sang-hyeon is left helpless in the face of his daughter's death, with nothing left to cling on to but his feelings of anger and despair. The investigation into his daughter's death is progressing slowly, so restless and unable to sit quiet any longer, he decides to take matters into his own hands. Sang-hyeon receives an anonymous text message with information on the culprit, including an address where the sender claims Sang-hyeon would find electronic evidence of the crime; when he gets there, he sees a man, Kim Cheol-yong laughing as he watches a video showing Su-jin's rape and murder. Sang-hyeon accidentally kills Cheol-yong in a fit of rage, and upon learning that Cheol-yong had an accomplice, becomes hellbent on finding the second rapist/murderer. Upon examining Cheol-yong's murder scene, Jang Eok-gwan, the detective who leads the investigation into Su-jin's murder, realizes that Sang-hyeon was the killer and sets out on his trail"- wiki
The story is fueled with moments of true human emotion that make you feel the main character. This film leaves you with a changed perspective about the laws that are society controls. This is not the fast paced thriller a lot of people like it see. This film is more heart wrenching which gives it depth to the point you root for the main character.
Lee Sang-hyeon (Jung Jae-young) is a hardworking single father who lost his wife to cancer and all his has left is his daughter. The day after he has a small fight with his daughter, he comes home to an empty house. Thinking it was normal due to the fact she is a growing girl and was mad at him. The next day the police call him to identify a body. Sadly its his daughter and the man is shown visibly broken as if there was nothing left to live for. Lee Sang-hyeon is a man that many can relate to, he lives a simple life and is somewhat distant. He isn't the perfect character that a lot of movies are filled with today. This man has heart which causes the viewer to feel for him.
Jang Eok-gwan (Lee Sung-min) is the hardened cop who is under fire for physical interrogation of a minor who committed a heinous murder. He is the man who informs Lee Sang-hyeon about his daughters death and he is also the man who tries to stop lee from killing his daughters rapists. Along the way we see why Jang is the way he is and we also start to like him as he starts to show what he truly feels. He is a man who is conflicted, he has to protect the laws but he knows that the kids that commit this crime are truly monsters and will never change. Despite this he still follows the path he must due to his career choice. In his heart he believes he too would do the same thing as lee but his brain is telling to follow the law but that doesn't mean he wont help lee.
This film is spear headed by director Lee Jeong-ho who proves a worthy director in his sophomore release. Yet you can tell that he needs a little more experience but I can tell if he continues directing films he'll be something great. Next to him is experienced leading actor Jung Jae-young who portrays the main character. Jung is an remarkable actor who is able to express characters emotions to the point you believe it. It is always a delight to see him act as he always brings something new to his characters. After Jung we have experienced supporting actor Lee Sung-min who is able to support Chang in a great way. He is able to express his character with such confliction that you feel sorry for him.
All in all I enjoyed the film as it had a really good message and truly heart wrenching scenes.
