A song better left unheard: White
If not my first then this film is one of the first Koreans I ever saw. This film made me a fan of Ham Eun-jung or, in other words, I have a crush on her.
"The film opens with a girl group called "Pink Dolls" about to perform in a televised competition. Their act flops and they lose to the more mainstream girl group, Pure (played by After School). They move into a new studio where they hope to practice and record their next hit, and finally make it to the top. There is tension and rivalry between the four members of "Pink Dolls" - Je-ni, a singer insecure with hitting high notes, A-rang, a singer addicted to cosmetic surgery, Shin-ji, who can't sing, but is an excellent dancer, and Eun-ju, the eldest and former backup dancer who despite being the oldest, is constantly bullied by the younger three."
When I first saw this film a year ago, I truly loved and considered it one of the best horror movies I've seen. The thing I had to get used to when I started watching foreign movies was the longer length and the fact that the end often could end before the actual end of the film.
This film gives a little insight to the Korean entertainment business and the culture. Though it is more of a supernatural thriller rather than a horror film. We have a ghoulish figure in the appearance of a former idol that wants revenge on a lot of people. It is quite interesting to see how she brings out the end of these girls. Ham Eun-jung is quite convincing in this film and appears to be a genuine actress that doesn't have to depend on her looks. She is beautiful and they use that later in the film when they reinvent her character.
This film is really great for people that like horror movies or just Korean movies in general though I don't recommend watching it late at night like I did. The only real big problems is the length because I felt it could have ended earlier, but the director manages to use the length to his advantage to tell this story.
