Impression of The Master of Revenge aka Master - God of Noodles

I will call this an impression because I didn't watch all the episodes but I did watch the first few and the end. It starts off kind of good but then it spirals into predictability. The ending was terrible and happened so fast. I suggest you skip this drama and watching Oh Hae-Young or Beautiful Mind. 

The show stars Chun Jung-Myung as a young man out for revenge against a man who stole everything from him. He is brought up in an orphanage and has 3 great friends all who have different paths in life. Due to a tragic even the four friends split up but eventually make it back to each other. It's a tough road for the four of them and not everyone makes it out alive. 

Despite the terrible ending, I do like this cast. 

Cho Jae-hyun does a wonderful job as the main villain. I've seen him in a few films and I have been impressed with his talent. He does a lot of Kim Ki-duk films, so some people might not recognize him. I've actually never seen him play a sane character before, that would be interesting to see.

First impressions of Beautiful Mind

A Beautiful Mind is a 16 episode Korean drama currently on-air. It stars Jang Hyuk as a neurosurgeon with no sympathy and Park So-Dam as a naive cop who is all about doing the right thing. It is my first time seeing Park So-Dam so far I'm not too impressed but I'm very impressed with Jang Hyuk. 

I've seen Jang Hyuk in Searching for an Elephant, Five Senses of Eros, Maybe, The Client, The Flu, and Innocent Thing. So he's not new to me but his performance in this is far better than anything else I've seen from him. His character is so dark but at the same time vulnerable. It's a very difficult character to play so I have to tip my hat to him. Only 7 episodes have been aired but this is my favorite drama of 2016 so far. I often don't wait for the subs to be fully translated into English, I have to thank Viki. 

Lee Young Oh (Jang Hyuk) is a neurosurgeon who his father calls a monster as he lacks emotion and has been taught how to analyze body language in order to understand emotions.  Eventually, Lee Young Oh is left alone in this world after he is betrayed rather harshly. In comes Gye Jin Sung (Park So Dam) a traffic cop who is a bit naive that Lee Young Oh seems to like to play with. When he has no one left will Gye Jin Sung rush into his life in order to save him and make him "human"?

Lucid Dream: A sweet special that leaves you too soon

Been way too long but I'm back. I'm going to release a lot of posts for the rest of this week. I have seen a lot of Korean entertainment since my last post in April. 

Without further ado...

Lucid Dream 

A 2 episode drama special that will leave you wanting more. It stars Ji Jin Hee (Blood) and Lee Ji-Ah (Athena: Goddess of War) as two star-crossed lovers. Half modern love story and half historical drama.

Lee Soo-hyun (Ji Jin Hee) is the CEO "dictator" of a video game company, every night he has dreams of a love story occurring 1,000 years ago. He is engaged to a woman he doesn't love and is a perfection causing his employees to call him a dictator. 

Meanwhile, Han Yun-Hee (Lee Ji-Ah) is a lovable artist who decides to cross-dress to enter into a contest with her niece who doesn't have a father. With her outstanding talent, she gets a job offer from Lee Soo-hyun's company. She shaves her head and decides to act like a man in order to keep the well-paying job. She also as dreams of a love story occurring a thousand years ago. 

Lucid Dream is available on Netflix streaming as well as Dramafever. It's a nice drama if you want a quick love story to fill your day. It's a drama filled with seasoned actors so it's a bit different than newer Korean dramas. It was such a delight to watch this, I binged watched it late at night. I am so glad I did because I really did need a little pick-me-up and I tend to be a sucker for a good love story.

How is everyone? I'm doing great, like some of you know I watch the KBS variety show The Return of Superman. I'm currently on episode 45, I still love the show very much. Sadly, I will stop watching it after episode 123 since my favorite family leaves the show. I feel like the Return of Superman show is making all the wrong choices with the format of the show. The families are actually filmed for about 54+ hours rather than the 48 hours that the show talks about. All of these people work for a living and it must be tough for them to try to work, raise a child, take care of each other and film a long show. 

That's why Jang Hyun-sung and his family left was due to scheduling conflicts. Tablo and his family left in episode 58. Then finally after 123 episodes Choo Sung-hoon and his family left the show. If you haven't figured it out, the Choos are my favorite family featured in the show. I was quite sad when I learned about their departure. As you can see I am a true fan of the show but the reason I want to talk about this show is due to me loving it and I want to spread this show around to more people.

That brings me to the matter at hand, I've had some problems with DramaFever to the point I don't even use the website anymore. The ads on the site would replay and mess up a lot. Then they will play the same three ads the whole damn time. I don't think the quality of the service provided by the site is worth it. Luckily, KBS has their own YouTube channel. You  can see almost all of your favorite KBS shows, including The Return of Superman. They even section it off by providing playlists of certain families if just want to see one families adventures. The best thing is that the quality is great, KBS has subtitled the show in English and they don't force ads down your throats and hardly ever messes up.

DramaFever bought by Warner Bros

DramaFever, the video streaming site that offers Korean dramas was bought by Warner Bros. in 2016. It was acquired by Soft Bank in 2009 and was basically created with feedback by many Korean drama fans.

The website also has a partnership with Hulu, you will find out that Hulu's collection of Korean drama is vast compared to the small amount on Netflix Streaming. But with DramaFever you have to pay to not see ads while with Netflix you just have to pay and you will not see ads at all.

DramaFever does host its own award show that appears to be popular. It's a good feat for a company that was created in 2009. The one thing that DramaFever has successfully done is to create a community. I enjoyed my time on the site but as on now I rarely log on to DramaFever for the fact they no longer allow you to watch their movies without a subscription but you can still watch the dramas. I prefer to use Viki or just stick with Netflix as their collection is getting bigger.
