So Ji-sub

Also in my list of best actors Korea has to offer. So Ji-sub has the looks that many fan girls would go crazy for but more importantly he has the acting chops that many actors wish they had.

Ji-sub is also a rapper, who only started doing modeling in order for a chance to meet with his idol (Kim Sung-jae). He served his two use service as a public relations officer.

I first saw the actor in the film Rough Cut, which is one of my favorite Korean films of all time. It was a dark film like most of his films tend to be. Ji-sub played a gangster who proved himself with his actions rather than with his words. This silent gangster was able to penetrate the heart of the characters, developed a rivalry/friendship, and a hit on his life. It was a character that I am sure many actors would mess up but So didn't and it was nice to see talent in a modern actor.

Always was a dramatic romance movie in which So plays a former thug and now nightwatchmen who develops a friendship with a blind woman which turns to love. Again he played a silent man but that characteristic slowly fades as the movie goes on. We see his character become more vocal but that kind of ends toward the final parts of the film. So was able to portray such a wounded man so well, it was hard not to watch him perform. It is not the sappy Hollywood romance movies that we are all used to.

A Company Man has a wonderful concept and excellent delivery. It is an action packed (well mostly at the end) film in which So plays a businessman who is actually an assassin working for an assassin organization. The character makes the mistake of falling in love with a single mother who he decides to try to quit the business for. So again plays a quiet but  this time with a different kind of feel. His character felt more approachable but you still understood that he was the boss.

In Can't Live Without Robbery, So plays the villain. The villain is the owner of a video game company and he is a very rich man. The rich man has a hobby which is committing robberies of peoples houses. He doesn't care about what he takes as he is already rich. He does it for the thrill of the act rather than for the prizes. I like the film, it was cute even though it was shot badly. So and the hero of the film make the movie entertaining to watch.
